Participating in Holy Hunger helped me re-connect with parts of myself that had been repressed by diet culture, food rules, and a family history of distorted body image placing thinness on a pedestal above emotional, physical, and spiritual fullness. I now have a more nuanced and holistic vocabulary for talking about food, my body and what it craves. Exploring these themes under Marissa’s guidance in supportive community really encouraged me to examine my own beliefs whether I liked them or not. My hope now is to continue exploring this way of thinking so I can pass it on to my kids and continue to nourish all parts of myself as I move through early motherhood.

I would highly recommend Holy Hunger to anyone interested in learning about their relationship with food and digestion through the lens of Ayurveda. I have learned so much about my body, my emotions, and specifically my troubled digestion by studying Ayurveda with Marissa. This group deepened my knowledge and it was profoundly healing being in a community with like-minded participants.

Holy Hunger was the exact community I needed at the time I took it. Marissa created such a safe and open space for us to be heard when we needed to speak and to just listen when we needed to just absorb. The way she communicates and synthesizes Ayurvedic wisdom and somatics was and is so applicable to everyday life, and it felt like the two were made to complement each other. My relationship to food and body has waxed and waned through birth and postpartum but the tools and insights I gained through Holy Hunger have helped me to create deeper connection to myself and my experience throughout it all.
